You posess sensitive skin if:
- You sunburn easily;
- your skin is delicate;
- often irritated by temperature changes, new detergents, cosmetics and seasonal changes; and
- you get a rash just thinking about a trip to the park without your hat, hydrocortisone cream and sun block
If you answered yes to any or all of the above, you probably have sensitive skin.Finely-textured, usually dry and prone to allergic reactions, sensitive skin requires a consistent daily skin care regimen. Follow the steps below and make your sensitive skin glow!
-
Always remove makeup with a gentle makeup remover, preferably free of dyes and scents, designed for sensitive skin. Use tissues or cotton balls.
- When your makeup is removed, gently cleanse your face with a mild soap or face wash that is pH balanced and contains lanolin or other skin softening ingredients.
- Use your fingertips to gently massage cleanser into your skin and do not use a washcloth or loofah. This step will remove any makeup residue, sweat, or environmental pollutants that have accumulated throughout the day.
- Never use soaps or cleansers with harsh chemicals or ingredients such as alcohol that may dry or irritate your face.
- Apply a skin-refreshing toner. As with anything else you put on or next to your skin, avoid products with harsh chemicals, dyes and fragrances. Never use a toner with alcohol since it will dry out and irritate your face. See our Herbal Milk Toner recipe.
- Apply a dye-free, unscented moisturizer for sensitive skin.
- To save yourself a step, with a little shopping around you can find a sun block that doubles as a moisturizer. Make sure that your sunscreen is paba-free.
